Return To Sender
Published in the most recent issue of TeenInk, Return To Sender was a touching and poetic fiction piece that beautifully encapsulated a poignant story of forgotten love and sorrow. Told from the perspective of an unnamed character, the article tells the story of a teenager finding in her signifigant other's car a mixtape, made for them months prior by a previous girlfriend. The piece documents the narrator's emotional journey as they listen to the mixtape and return it to the former girlfriend, thus "giving her back her heartstrings."
Return To Sender tells this story using language that is poignant and descriptive, as well as incredibly engaging to the reader. For me, this was one of those rare fiction pieces that do not feel fictitious at all because they are so relatable. Return To Sender perfectly captures the reality of teenage heartbreak, and the mental strength needed to help others from the past of one who you love.
