I found Allison Ive’s article “Secondhand Insecurity” to be an important warning for all, especially teenage girls because she addresses the common problem of secondhand insecurity by comparing it to socially unacceptable toxins. In her article, Allison describes secondhand insecurity as emotional damage inflicted by insecure people who “will project their insecurities onto others.” I can relate to Allison because I have also experienced the “lethal negativity” caused by “poisonous people;” however, I previously viewed such negativity as normal and an inevitable part of society. I appreciate Allison’s declaration that “we need to acknowledge secondhand insecurity as a health threat” because it gave me   hope that we can “break the cycle of negativity.” Thank you, Allison for your meaningful warning and for taking a stance against this problem.
