I joined Teen Ink a few months ago, and I have learned so much from contributing and reading articles. I thank all the staff – they have truly done a tremendous job!

I am writing to voice a suggestion: How about adding a section for food? Our world is characterized by diversity in cultures and food. Through this column, readers could be exposed to the different flavors of the world. This would give students an opportunity to further present their cultures. After all, food is one of the common elements every culture can identify with.

Through this section, students could contribute recipes, exotic pictures, and descriptions. For example, if I were to describe “Roti Canai,” a dish from Malaysia, I would say it is a fluffy, soft, and buttery bread that is normally showered with chicken curry or dhal, a delicious thick lentil soup.

With this section, the diversity in Teen Ink could be expanded and teenagers would be given a voice to talk about their cultures.

Editor’s note: We currently have a section called Travel & Culture where we often publish pieces showcasing food of different cultures. See page 23 for an article about food by a teen living in Alaska.
