“How to Say Good-Bye” by Brianna Shoaf showed how it must feel to have a family member so close to you move away. In this nonfiction piece, Brianna explains how close she is with her father. They had a tradition every Saturday where they would talk, or just read. When her father asked what she would think if he moved, she must have felt heartbroken.
I have never had to say goodbye to a close family member, but this piece showed me how it must feel. Brianna described her relationship with her father, and how hard it was to let him go to San Antonio for a job.
I love how Brianna went into detail when she was describing saying goodbye to her father. It makes me imagine her watching all of the familiar things from her car window, and not wanting it to end. It’s hard, because sometimes we have to let our closest friends and family we love go. But soon, hopefully, we will be able to understand why they had to leave, like Brianna did.
