“You Got Hit by a Car, Remember?” by Pia Ripley is an amazing poem. She retells her vivid memories, each considering her friend Colin. You start to get a feel for her life, as though you were there with her. It's like you were invited to her eighth birthday, or rode shotgun and spilled coke on yourself when she learned how to shift. That's how enchanted I felt by the poem.
In the last couple of stanzas everything changes. You learn that Colin died, and how furious the author was for not being able to say good-bye to her best friend. I felt so much sympathy for her and her friend. This is a moving poem that deserves recognition.
