I found Kate Polask's poem "Women" empowering. She is able to reveal the raw and uncut version of women in a positive light through images that portray all emotions from happy to upset. This poem shows the beauty of women, looking past just a pretty face. Polask not only shows the positives about being a woman, but also the struggles. We, as women, all know the terror that storms through us with "bloody knuckles and a can of mace in [our] back pocket" or the insecurities that spring up with our "thighs that jiggle" (Polask). Without brining women down or cutting them short on their capabilities, Polask develops a REAL picture on the lives of women. We are allowed to be hurt, we are allowed to be happy, we are allowed to be ourselves. So, thank you Kate for showing the world that we are more than a perfect model, we are real and "we are women" (Polask).
