Obesity is a concern in the United States because so many people are overweight and/or obese. Being big does not mean you’re obese. Obesity describes a type of body weight.

There are many causes to obesity. One in not enough exercise, eating too much and consuming large amounts of alcohol. Drinking alcohol is a cause because it is considered food because of how many calories are in alcohol. There are also many other factors like age. The older your body is the ability to metabolize food slows down and you do not require as many calories to maintain your weight. This is why people note that they eat the same and do the same activities as they did when they were 20 years old, but at age 40, gain weight. Gender also takes a role in obesity. Women tend to be over weight more often then men because men have a higher resting metabolic rate (meaning they burn more energy at rest) than women, so men require more calories to maintain their body weight.
Obesity is also one of the killers in the world. Taking in more calories than you burn leads to being overweight and, eventually, obesity. The body stores unused calories as fat. Many kids are over weight or obese. One reason is because parents might not eat well or schools or teachers are not a good influence. Obesity is starting to control people and that is taking peoples lives. Most weight problems have to do with what you put in your body.

Obesity is an excess proportion of total body fat. A person is considered obese when his or her weight is 20% or more above normal weight. The most common measure of obesity is the body mass index or BMI. A person is considered overweight if his or her BMI is between 25 and 29.9; a person is considered obese if his or her BMI is over 30. "Morbid obesity" means that a person is either 50%-100% over normal weight, more than 100 pounds over normal weight, has a BMI of 40 or higher, or is sufficiently overweight to severely interfere with health or normal function. Their may be genetics in relatives but obesity is mostly what you decide to do. Some antidepressants and antipsychotic medicines may also contribute to weight gain and obesity. Genetic factors play some part in the development of obesity. Children of obese parents are 10 times more likely to be obese than children with parents of normal weight.

Why should you be concerned? This is why, you might not know it but you may be on the way you being over weight and close to obesity. This is a big deal because if you are over weight you could have a heart attack or even die from being big. You might think “Oh well I have to die one way.” Well yes but if you have kids you may never see them get married or even see your grandchildren. Also you may never experience life if you die early.

I was close to becoming obese but I took action for my body and started to help it instead of hurt it. My mom was also on the bigger side and she was the one who started to take action and change her world. When she was doing that she happens to have changed mine too. But I was the one who had to keep helping my self. Now I am not saying stop eating bad food just eat in moderation. You may hear this lot and I did too but once I decided to change I understood why they wanted to drill it to my brain. I just walk for a half hour every day and that helps me loose so weight that way. Doing simple things like walking or bike riding helps. I am not saying that you will loose weight by walking you also have to eat balanced meal with the parapet amount of food. If you are having trouble with that use the food pyramided.

Obesity is a real problem and will not go away on its own we need to start to help and educate the new generation so they don’t die young. So why are we still struggling to fix this problem? Could we blame the food industries, or ourselves? What will you do to help you and the others around you with obesity?
