A very big problem facing our Earth that almost everybody knows is global warming. Global Warming is an increase in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere. Global warming is caused by the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is warming that happens when solar radiation from the sun is trapped by the atmosphere. It then warms the planet's surface. There are many ways to help prevent and stop it. One way to do this is to change your light bulbs in your house to compact fluorescent bulbs. Replacing incandescent light bulbs to fluorescent light bulbs could prevent billions of pounds of greenhouse gas emissions. Compact fluorescent light bulbs use at least two-thirds less energy than standard light bulbs. Fluorescent light bulbs also last longer than standard light bulbs.
Another way to help prevent global warming is to ride a bike or walk when possible instead of a car. Cars emit gas into the air. It causes global warming. By riding a bike or walking, there would be fewer emissions from cars. If you have to get somewhere like work and it's far away, you could get a carpool going with some people at your work. Carpooling is good because even though cars release gas emissions, if you carpooled instead of everybody riding a car, it would cut down the emissions little by little. A really good way to help prevent global warming is to recycle plastic. Plastic never decomposes. It will sit in a landfill for ever and still not decompose. 40 billion plastic bottles are produced each year in the United States. About two-thirds of those plastic bottles will end up in a landfill. We need to do our part and recycle plastic bottles.

There are many ways to help prevent global warming. The ones above are just some of the things you can do. We all need to step up and do our part to prevent global warming. Whether it be riding a bike or walking to work, or carpooling, or recycling plastic bottles. It can be as easy as just switching a couple light bulbs in your house to compact fluorescent light bulbs. We all need to do our part.
