Anything I Want to Be

“What do you want to be when you grow up?” it’s the question that never ceases to pop up in almost every conversation we have with adults. At five years old, our responses were pretty simple. We’d flash them a big toothy smile and say “I want to be a princess!” or “When I get big, I’m going to be a poweranger!” As the years went by, we gave our answers a little more thought with responses like teacher, doctor or pilot. No matter what we said, we were given the same response: “You can be anything you want to be” accompanied by a gentle smile. Now as high school students, it is the time to really think about what we want to be in life. This is the time to gear up for it. But what exactly is that? I don’t know about you, but when I grow up, I want to be like those adults from my childhood who smiled at me and said “you can be anything you want to be.”
