"If I knew where poems came from, I'd go there"

- Michael Langley, 'Staying Alive'

“I’ll find you! I promise, just… Just hang on!” They chase after me, pushing me in the other direction away from my baby sister. The leader has glowing red eyes and the blood on his fangs and hands to match. I gasp for air, it seems like I’ve been running for ever and the woods have no end in sight. I hear her scream and break down in tears falling to the ground in defeat. “I couldn’t… I couldn’t save her. My baby sister, my best friend. What’s the use living if she’s dead?” As I scream these thought in my mind, they swoop down around me, from out of nowhere. Fangs glistening red, a sharp contrast to the night sky. I curl myself into a ball as a last mode of defense, my clothes are torn from running through branches and dirty with mud. I’ve run out of tears and the leader hisses in delight. His fangs glistening, he grabs my hair and with a yelp my head is up and my neck is open, exposed. Blood pounding through my veins, I know that I should fight but I don’t want too. Seeing that I’ve come to accept the inevitable, he leans down to my neck and—
“Wake up! Come on, we’re gonna be late!” I look up at the face of my baby sister and her big brown eyes. She’s alive? I’m alive? I bolt up in bed and see the book at the floor, picking it up I groan. “What it is?” Sighing, I answer my sister “Mom was right, I’ve got to stop reading Dracula before bed.”
