The year is 13,825,395,725 BC, and 2 researchers are discussing the potential benefits of their experiment. This scene has been translated to English and the researchers’ names to ‘Bob’ and ‘John’ for simplicity. The scene has taken place over 2 hundred years in absolute time and has been shortened.

“This will change the world!” Bob said, “won’t it be less confusing if Time only moved forward? We won’t get TIMs (time induced migraines) anymore if Time moved in one direction at a steady speed. “We also won’t have to wear these,” he gestured toward a strange device on his head, “to know when we are reliving the past.”

“True,” John said, “but no one has done anything remotely like this before. We could annihilate our species!”

“True,” John said, “but no one has done anything remotely like this before. We could annihilate our species!”

“Think of the bigger picture! If anyone makes a wrong move after we’ve just had a Time Reversal and creates an alternate universe, it might also kill us. We’re making life safer, not the other way around.” Bob said, “I know you’re worried about this, but life is full of risks.”

John made a sound resembling a sigh. “Ok, but don’t blame me if this destroys everything.”

He pressed a button. A giant hollow wheel started spinning. Hundreds of tanks of glowing liquid were poured into the wheel. It began to emit smoke while loud explosions were going on inside. “It's gonna explode!” John yelled over the noise. “I’m stopping it!”

“NO!” Bob frantically pressed buttons as the wheel began to shake uncontrollably. “Do not stop this machine!” he pulled the lever. A boom so loud Bob and John had their atoms rearranged into an exotic type of dish soap rang out. A giant fiery ball engulfed the planet. Then, the planet exploded with a force that makes modern bombs look like firecrackers. Everything was silent. No one was left. But their goal was complete. Time began to move forward and continued to do so for the next 13.8 billion years. This would become known as the event that modern historians call “The Big Bang.”

I thought of this idea when I was discussing the Big Bang with my mom.
