“What are you doing here?”
“I came to see you.”
“You really shouldn’t.”
“I know.”
“Why did you?”
“I couldn’t help it.”
They stared at each other.
“You heard what he said earlier.”
“Yes.”
“Did you listen to anything he said? Did you not comprehend any of that?”
She winced at his harsh words. “I did.” She said softly, “I know what it means.”
He was silent for a long time.
“But you’re still here.” He whispered. He was staring at her like he didn’t want to believe it.
“This isn’t another scam to try to break right?” He tried to state his question flatly, but she could hear the hope in his voice.
“I’m still here.”
“So am I.” he said. She smiled.
