Tears elude her as jagged fragments of broken promises litter the floor. His words slice through her flesh, leaving tiny red scars running along her arms and legs like thinly splintered ribbons. She’s desperate for escape, a distraction, maybe a tremor from the earthquake she’s certain is rattling their tiny seventh floor flat.
Maybe this separation is a much needed escape from the unpleasant sting lingering behind her eyes, prickling the unhealed wound in her chest.
