"How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard." -Winnie the Pooh

This is it. The doorstep. Oh boy, I’m so nervous. I shouldn’t be though. I mean, we’d already be dating if it wasn’t for my hesitation. We’ve been hanging out for half the year already. We are practically dating. But why am I still so nervous?

We made it to the door and stopped. Oh man, I don’t know what to do with my hands!

“Well I had fun tonight, Laura.” Josh says and starts to lean in for a hug.

“Me too! Let's do it again sometime!” I say a bit too enthusiastic.

I start to turn towards my door, discouraged. Maybe it’s not happening today? I mean, I tried my hardest to give off the impression that I’m ready for this relationship. Maybe I’ll have to be more obvious next time.

“Hey Laura?”

“Yes?” I turn around maybe a bit too fast.

“One more thing.” And then he leans in and plants his lips on mine. But not like I’d imagen. It's kind of like a kiss that a little kid gives to their parents before being put to bed. Ok, weird comparison, but still.

He leans away, “Can I try that again?” He asks.

I’m laughing now but say, “Sure.”

This time when he leans in, it's not as stiff, but I’m laughing so hard still that I snort which causes me to kind of spit. Oh man, this isn’t how I wanted it to go!

Both of us lean away this time. Both of us laughing.

“Well goodnight.” He says.

“Goodnight.” I reply and go inside.

Despite all the awkwardness and clumsiness, I’m glad we did it. He’s one of my best friends and I wouldn’t change that kiss for anything. Besides, our next one will be better.
