Carpe Diem

She stood on the curb, and peered out onto the busy street. The skyscrapers aligned the street. She appreciated the trees that were all different colors -- shades of red, green, yellow, and orange. The bright yellow color of the taxis stood out in her mind, reminding her of the bright yellow sunflowers she used to run through in the spring, in the fields of Montana to try to clear her mind from what was going on at home. She knew she had entered a better life now, and tried to make her bad childhood memories feel distant. She was on her own, ready to seize every opportunity. It was a new day, one she knew she should appreciate, and the start of a new beginning.
