He sits on the crinking paper over the examining table as they wait for the doctor to return. He fiddles with the IV tube, mostly because his mother would scold him if he so much as touched any other instruments in the room. His father, solemn, sat in the corner, praying. His mother, across from her son, flips through a health magazine she has no interest in reading. The doctor returned with the results and a final option. What choice do I have? He thought. I hope this works, she worried. Finally, the father spoke. “Well, it’s worth a shot.”
