There he was floating on his only hope in life. The rain stinging the back of his neck amidst the angry cold sea, he thinks of his past and how he knows he won’t be able to turn back. He no longer had anywhere to go, except to the water. He had nothing left in this world. His friends have abandoned him and his parents believe he's a killer. The only thing he could do now is get into his boat and never come back. No one knows why he's leaving but what's the point of them knowing? They'd never know he was gone... As he put more thought into his problem, he put up his sails and decided to go deeper into the sea where nothing awaited him but death. When he thought he had no more purpose in life, he saw something in the upset waters that caught his eye. He cleared his eyes as if he were having delusions.
There in the crashing sea, he saw a man on a small piece of debris breathing in as much oxygen as he possibly could before he sinks into the unknown where no one would ever find him. He then knew that this was all real. After looking again to be 100% sure, he yelled at the man, hoping he would get a sign of life. The man slowly looked up and with everything he had in his lungs, replied back with a small croak. Surprised, he ran around franticly looking for a rope to throw to the lost man. He threw it out and the man held on to it with all his might. Whilst reeling him in, he felt proud of himself, like he actually did have a purpose in life. He was glad he could give this man a second chance. Something he had hoped of, but never received. Finally, the man reached the edge of his boat. He reached down and grabbed the mans ragged and torn clothes and the man looked up at him and gave him the most relieved smile as he placed him in the boat. He looked down at the man and he looked oddly familiar. He asked the man, "Do I know you?" and the man replied, "It seems so."
Now, without a doubt, he knew. He just saved himself. And at that same moment, he awoke in the safety of his own bed, and realized that there is in fact a chance of hope whenever you think you're alone. Maybe sometimes the only person you need to believe in is yourself.
