Different, new, but the same

My heart beats like the sticks against a drum. I'm as frozen as a ice sculpture. But as alive as a newborn horse ready to take its first steps only minutes after it has been born. I'm different, new, yet I'm exactly who I used to be. Only i'm a better person this time around. My face still flushes that bright apple red every time I get embarrassed. I still count the stars in the sky at night when i feel alone. I still hide behind my hair like a small child does their parent. But I no longer shy away from the truth of myself. I know who I am now. I'm no saint, I don't have a miracle story that changes lives or your perspective on the world. I'm me. Different but the same in every way. I just found my voice again. I learned how to be unique again. To be myself and even though it can be hard and not many people like it I do. That's all that matters now.
