She held out the lighter. The flame flickered red, orange and yellow. An understanding passed between us like an electric current, sparking and rippling with the power of united rebellion and secrecy. Our differences were pushed aside along with all past rules and moral beliefs as she lifted the lighter until the flame licked the tip of her cigarette. I watched her inhale deeply and the urge within me grew larger. She blew a seductive cloud of smoke in my face as if teasing me then she held out her cigarette as a peace offering, as a symbol of acceptance. This was it. This was the moment everything changed. One cigarette, one smoke, one wrong decision changed everything.
