Two Different Worlds

May 8, 2008
“Ahh!” I threw the vase at the wall. Oh… Hi. I’m a normal student at Crater High…well my friends and I call ourselves normal, but our social status name is the outcasts. I’m Kris, and I’m in love with a popular.

Yup! Shocking huh? An outcast and a popular!? That’s funny. It is if you’re not me…okay, it actually is a little funny to me. His name is Eric, and my life officially sucks now because of him.

Eric and I use to go out; key words use to. We were happy and had a lot of fun. We had many amazing moments together, like when we had a water fight at the car wash for the school fundraiser. My parents liked him and vice versa, but our friends… not so much. I mean, come on! An outcast and a popular having a relationship is crazy, but the two groups being friends! That’s out of every freakin’ universe known and unknown to man.

Which explains the first sentence and why I’m about to bawl my eyes out. Eric’s best friend, Jane, the queen B herself, convinced him that we were too different, which is exactly what he said to me when we broke up.
“We’re from two different worlds Kris, it can’t work,” he said.
And me being me I said, “What the hell Eric! I love you and you love me. That’s all that matters! Let me tell you something, we can make this work. If we love each other enough then we sure as hell can. Don’t tell me that because our stupid ‘social statuses’ at school are what is forbidding us from being together. Who created the rules? Who said that we have to follow all that crap? We can be different, together. And show the world that not everything is about high school and dances and who’s wearing what! That love doesn’t measure what you are, but by whom you are!”
He looked at me with sad eyes and shook his head. “I’m so sorry,” he whispered and walked away. Son of a …. Ugh!

This now brings me to throwing this vase at the wall in my utter frustration and anger at the man I love. My friends know I’m more than pissed off and they know that an “I told you so,” isn’t something I want to hear. They especially know that I want privacy right now, but my best friend and twin brother Nate just couldn’t follow that.

“Listen Kris!” he screamed at me. I took my head out of my hands, exhausted, and looked up. You could tell in my eyes that I had given up. It had only been three days since Eric broke up with me and thank God we had a long weekend and that mom isn’t making me go to school today. She knows what I’m going through. I could not take looking at him at the popular table. He would probably look all happy and cute and gorgeous and uh! That would just cause me to run out side and ball my eyes out, though I don’t think I have anymore tears to shed.

“You love the guy right?” he asked. I didn’t have to answer that, he knew the answer.

“Then go after him! Forget about all the social status crap! Follow your heart sis,” he said, holding my hands kneeling on the ground in front of me. His eyes looked so pleading, so sad.

I shook my head. “My heart’s been shattered. We’re just too different Nate. He was right about us coming from two different worlds. It’s just not meant to be so let’s just leave it at that, okay?”

Nate looked at me and left, just left. I wonder where he was going…
I went to school and impatiently waited for lunch. I needed to talk to that bastard before my sister lost all of her old self. And I was not going to let that happen. Not ever.

Finally, the bell rang and everyone was in the lunchroom. I walked up to the stupid “popular” table and asked nicely for Eric. Okay it actually came out like…“All right, where’s the bastard?”

This kid Eric stood up. I looked at him and sighed. How the hell my sister liked this guy I would never know. He was all preppy and jockey and not the type of guy I expected to sweep Kris off her feet.

“Can we talk for a sec?”

He just shrugged, as if nothing was wrong. As he turned to walk away that chick Jane sent me a look of pure and I mean PURE hatred. Guess she didn’t just want to be friends now did she?

I followed Eric to the field and asked him, “Do you love my sister?”

“We’re too…” I cut him off.

“Don’t give me the social status crap that your so called best friend gave you. That wasn’t what I asked. I asked if you are in love with Kris. What’s the verdict?”

He looked at me for a second and nodded, “With all my heart.”

“Then Eric, don’t be stupid! Go after her.”

“Nate have you seen our friends together? It just won’t work out.”
“If you love her like you say you do then your friends will learn to accept her and her friends. If not who really cares? The sad truth is that most of those people only hang around you for image. Now my sister’s friends are a different story. They will accept you and treat you like a real person. They are known as true friends.” Silence.

“I don’t think she’ll take me back after this. She’s probably already moved on.”

“You haven’t seen her have you? She’s pissed and very depressed. She’s acting worse then when our dad died! My dad was the most important man in her life. The fact that she is in more of a mess than then means that you’re worth a hell of a lot to her. So go after her! Don’t let doubt or you being a “jock” and her being an “outcast” stop you!” I practically yelled at him.

Realization dawned on his face. “Thanks man.”

He was about to run off when I grabbed his arm.

“Hurt her again and you’re not going to be this lucky, okay?” I hissed.

“Definitely, but I won’t hurt her,” he said.

“Good, now go she’s at her library,” I replied and let go of his arm. I watched him run to his car and speed off. I hoped that this was what she wanted.
I was at my library, more commonly known as Barnes N Noble, when I heard my name being called. I looked up to see Eric standing over me with a single daisy in his hands. Yes, I love daisies. I was shocked to see him. He sat down next to me and placed the flower behind my ear. I looked at him, a bit confused.

He took a deep breath and began, “I had a talk with your brother just now.” I was about to say something when he put his finger to my lips.

“Wait, let me finish. Anyway, he told me that I was a bastard and that if I loved you, truly loved you, then I shouldn’t let anyone stop me. Kris, I do love you, I would travel to hell, heaven, and back for you. You were right; we can make this work, because no one said we didn’t have a choice. I’m so sorry that I hurt you, I didn’t want to but I let myself believe that we couldn’t be together because of the stupidity of the social status. So I’m here today to ask you for your forgiveness and if we could get back together?” he said in one breath and a bit uncertain.

I looked into his eyes and smiled. He smiled and waited. I knew he wanted me to answer, so I did, in my very own special way.

“Hell yeah!”

Eric laughed, and looked solemn again. He glanced down at my lips and then back at my eyes, silently asking for my permission.
I nodded and he kissed me. It was the sweetest kiss we’ve ever shared.

The fact is that though we may be from two different worlds, who said we couldn’t make a world of our own?
