It was a Dark and Stormy Night

It was a dark and stormy night.

Well, no, not really.

It was stormy alright, but not dark.

I mean, as dark as the storm was making it. But not as dark as the words “It was a dark and stormy night,” evoke.

Mainly because, it wasn’t night.

And it wasn’t day.

And it wasn’t morning, or evening, or
even mid-afternoon.

It wasn’t, really, any time at all.

But you can’t see.

You can’t see anything.

It’s just darkness, enveloping you from all sides.

But it’s not dark, really.

It’s just…nothing.

There’s nothing.

Not even a storm.

It is stormy, but there is no storm.

And it is dark, but there is no darkness.

There’s just…nothing.

There’s something under your feet, but you can’t tell what it is.

It feels like sand, and cloud, and slime, and gravel all at once.

But it’s not any of those things.

It’s not anything, actually.

It was a dark and stormy night.
