Escape to Salvation
Burgundy, emerald and golden leaves pollute the steps of the pathway. The steps are in fairly decent condition; few people have discovered my secret escape from the commotion of a boisterous city life. Chewed leaves beneath my feet generate the only sound present; other than the faint whisper of the ocean conversing with the sand bank. Insects grace the bellies of eroded rocks on the dirt beneath me before fluttering back to their respective abodes. It was nearing dawn and the sun began to yawn above me, creating a polish of colors reflecting from the moist leaves from last night’s drizzle. A small rodent reveals himself before me. It has just awoken from an elongated hibernation and it is now exploring the moist earth for tonight’s supper. My lasting footprints evaporate from the brief yet gentle gust of wind and I begin the long voyage back to my own home.
