it is not in the stars that hold our destiny it is in ourselves.- shakespeare

I sat in the window looking out with an unchangeable threatening, heartless gaze. One that sought for blood beneath it. This was my eternity, as it had been since my birth and rise to kinghood. People feared their king, did as he asked and would willingly throw themselves onto their own blades per his request.

That is my life. Slaves and servants flitting beneath my feet scurrying like rats as I felled enemy after enemy and all who opposed my rule. But something has changed.

Something has influenced the thoughts of one of my people. Made them think that a life not ruled by the very King they had always followed was one worth a try. Once they tried to invade, topple my rule and usurp my crown, I had taken great delight in dispatching their heads from the necks that once held them.

As that little revolt was taken swift care of, a strange hatred of all that my subjects had once lived for had settled in their idiotic hearts. How dare those craven bastards think that they can scheme in silence of the night and never expect my men to hear of it? My time was filled with more and more of those slimy scum getting their lives revoked than I ever wanted to waste on the mud of society.

As I swept through my kingdom, I reconquered those who thought that they were worthy of looking into my eyes with blood. Instead of expanding my rule over foreign lands like I wanted to, like I was destined to, I had to deal with a rotten insurgence of pitiful fools. One thing did make my time worth the troubles, and it was this woman- no this girl. She was one of the defiant ones, the rebels who wanted my crown and my blood on the streets underfoot.

Unlike the uncouth vermin around her, I felt some presence around her. A strength that my sword alone wouldn’t best. It is a favorite past time of mine to break the souls of such strong people. And I could tell from the hateful fire in her crisp blue eyes that her broken spirit would taste like a delicacy no mortal will ever have a chance to taste again.

Come to me my sweet Apple of Eden and let me feast on your soul as I bring to light all the worst fears you could ever conjure.

Due to this being part of an ongoing project, I cannot share the rest. I hope you enjoyed this snippet :)
