For my project I created a collage of Julia Alvarez’ life including some details of her book “in the time of the butterflies” and “ daughter of invention”. These photos connect to the story by representing events and people in her life that have affected her writing. I also added photos of the items her mother wanted to invent such as a suitcase with wheels. These connect all together because they represent everything she has written about and has gone through in her life and things she has had to overcome.
I inserted photos of her parents because in her story “daughter of Invention” she mentions them various times. Her mother was an inventor but they always called her crazy which is why I included a photo of Bellevue Asylum because she told Ms. Alvarez that’s where she would end up because their whole family called her crazy for wanting to be an inventor but she was Julia’s inspiration for being a writer by helping her write a speech of her experiences in the Dominican Republic and her move to New York. Basically I put images on things that contributed to her writing and details from the short story I read.
