Georgetown University: Summer Programs for HS Students

1-Week, 2-Week and 3-Week Academies
Take an in-depth look at a topic of interest and get a glimpse into the college experience through these highly experiential programs, which integrate field trips, prominent guest speakers, and collaborative activities to provide an intensive exploration of a subject area.

College Credit Courses 
Earn official academic credit, learn from world-renowned faculty, and engage in challenging coursework through these undergraduate courses—available in both online and on-campus formats. In this five-week program, you’ll have the opportunity to take classes alongside current undergraduate students, learn from renowned Georgetown faculty, and earn college credit. 

1-Week Academies 

American Politics Academy
In the American Politics Academy, you’ll learn about the important role that political parties, public opinion, and special interest groups can have on shaping political behavior and decisions while exploring how America’s changing culture impacts political movements, and ultimately, federal, state, and local policies. 

Introduction to Data Science Academy
The Introduction to Data Science Academy will give you a look inside the professional world of data science from experts in the field and an introduction to the main elements of programming in R, creating a project, and analyzing data. 

Creative Writing Academy
Led by Georgetown instructors and renowned literary figures from the D.C. area, our one-week Creative Writing Academy features a blend of workshops, lectures, and tutorials coupled with insightful, productive peer review sessions.

Entrepreneurship Academy
Explore the advantages and challenges of managing your own enterprise in a program focused on ethical entrepreneurship and the business operations of both private and non-profit sectors.

Forensic Science Academy
In Georgetown's Forensic Science Academy, you'll gain a firsthand look at the world of forensic science from professionals in the field—including investigators, detectives, crime scene technicians, and pathologists.

International Relations Academy
During the one-week International Relations Academy, you'll have the opportunity to engage with world-renowned faculty, gain valuable hands-on experience, and explore today's global issues and challenges at the city in the center of it all.

Journalism & News Reporting Academy
From sports and science to politics and the arts, this one-week program not only exposes you to a wide variety of journalism topics, but also provides opportunities for you to engage with and learn from seasoned and emerging journalists.

Law Academy
Through lectures, field trips, guest speakers, and discussion sections, our program offers not only an introduction to jurisprudence, but also a firsthand look at how laws are adjudicated and administered. 

Leaders in Advocacy Academy
In the Leaders in Advocacy Academy, you’ll be immersed in the real world of decision-making and advocacy in Washington, D.C., hearing directly from policy and media experts, think tanks, advocacy organizations, and influencers from both sides of the aisle.

1-week Medical Academy
The Medical Institute provides you with an introduction to the field of medicine—and a glimpse into the Georgetown University Medical Center, which includes the nationally ranked School of Medicine and School of Nursing & Health Studies, in addition to the world-renowned Lombardi Cancer Center.

National Security & Counterintelligence Academy
You'll gain a deeper understanding of how policies enhance the security of Americans in the post-9/11 world, study how the United States prevents foreign adversaries from gaining access to national security information, and examine how intelligence information is collected, analyzed, and disseminated.

Sports Industry Management Academy
You'll get an inside look behind the scenes of the industry to explore how events on the field, in the front office, and behind the camera are intricately linked to boardrooms, retail locations, and homes around the country.

U.S. Campaigns & Elections Academy
In Partnership with the Institute of Politics and Public Policy at the McCourt School of Public Policy, the U.S. Campaigns & Elections Academy will provide you with a framework to understand the elements needed for a successful campaign. 

Washington & the World Academy
The Washington & the World Institute will take you on an engaging journey where you’ll explore the role of the U.S. in the world and develop a broader perspective of how the changing dynamics may affect American leadership on a global level.

2-Week Academies 

Community Impact & Leadership Academy
This experiential program provides you with a firsthand look at how direct action and community engagement intersects with policy development.

Experiments in Biotechnology
Students will explore how Biotechnology affects a wide range of applications from food science to human health and wellness.

3-Week Academies 

Business & Leadership Academy
As a participant in this course, you will gain valuable exposure to important business topics and methods of analysis as you learn from Georgetown professors and leading experts in the field.

Economics Policy Academy
Georgetown's Economics Policy Academy provides an interdisciplinary exploration of the complex role played by states and other governing entities in relation to markets, through the lens of both economics and political science. 

Foreign Policy Academy
Combining group exercises, discussions with policymakers and foreign policy officials, and visits to renowned D.C. institutions, Georgetown's Foreign Policy Academy introduces you to the many components that guide and create U.S. foreign policy. 

Through daily interactions with faculty, you will get a snapshot of the field of nursing where you will address topics such as fundamentals of the profession in various healthcare settings, ethics, cultural competency, biological, physical, and social sciences, as well as career roadmaps.

Medical Academy
Throughout the program, you’ll investigate contemporary medical challenges facing society today, discuss the latest advances affecting the applied science of medicine, and interact with experts from the field to learn how to pursue a career in medicine.  

Social Justice & Public Policy Academy
You will reflect on the meaning of democracy, freedom, justice and equality; investigate how advocacy leads to change in public policy; develop your capacity for leadership; and become part of a community committed to personal growth.

Georgetown University is a world-renowned university in Washington D.C. Our location gives students access to a variety of museums and landmarks. Our programs offer an immersive learning experience that prepares students with the tools needed for college success. Our programs span a wide range of subjects, covering everything from forensic science and politics to journalism and digital design.

Our programs attract motivated students who would like to experience college life and learn in a college setting. Our credit students are high achieving students looking to get a head start on college.

Students come from all over the United States and the world.

What's a typical day like?

At Georgetown, the summer experience expands far beyond the classroom walls. Our Summer High School Programs are designed to reflect the college experience, and as such, we offer our students the flexibility of choice in how they spend their free time.

You'll attend academic program during the weekdays, which will include lectures, guest speakers, hands-on activities, group discussions, and off-site visits. Outside of class, you can choose from a wide range of daily activities to participate in, or opt for unstructured time, where you can venture out and explore the city or stay in and catch up on your summer reading.

Regardless of how you choose to spend your free time, we’ll always have a variety of planned activities to give you the freedom to make each day different—and tailored to fit your interests.

What should participants expect to learn or take away from your program?

Students should expect to leave the program with the tools they need to take their next steps–whether those next steps be in college, in their high school classroom or wherever the future takes them. Our programs give students the chance to meet their peers from all over the world, allowing them the opportunity to foster meaningful relationships.
