Carpe Diem: The University-Bound Adventure

This 2-week residential pre-college experience provides a College Application Boot Camp experience for rising seniors and a Princeton SAT prep course for rising 9th -11th grade students.

It also includes tours of renowned East Coast universities as well as cultural experiences including a Broadway play and museum tours in Boston, New York and Washington, DC.

Students will also have the opportunity to build their resumes by working with Teen Ink's writing experts to develop an essay to be published on Teen Ink's website.

What draws teens to your program?

Teens are drawn to the one-on-one mentoring experiences with Carpe Diem's experts, year-round learning opportunities and opportunities to engage with peers in hands-on college a nurturing and rigorous environment.

What type of teen attends your program?

High-achieving students from all backgrounds seeking admission to selective universities.

Where do your participants come from?

We serve both American and international students, who are primarily from China, but also include Central America and the Caribbean.

What's a typical day like?

WEEK 1 - General Schedule

7:45–8:45am: Breakfast
8:45–9am: Walk to class
9–Noon: Class
Noon–1pm: Lunch in campus dining facility
1–4pm: Class
4–5pm: Free time within designated boundaries
5–6pm: Dinner with residential living group in campus dining facility
6–7pm: Evening study (Monday–Thursday)
7–7:20pm: Free time within designated boundaries
7:20–8:30pm: Evening residential programming (Monday–Thursday)
8:30–9:30pm: Free time within designated boundaries
9:30–10pm: Counselor meeting (students must check-in with their Residential Counselor and remain on their hall)
10–10:45pm: Free time (students must remain on their hall)
10:45pm: Lights out

WEEK 2 - Tours

Day 1 - Boston

  • Students will tour two of the following: Boston University, Northeastern University, Boston College, Emerson
  • Guided sight-seeing tour
  • Evening cultural activity

Day 2 - Boston

  • Students will tour: Tufts, MIT, Harvard
  • Guided sight-seeing tour
  • Evening cultural activity

Day 3 - New England

  • Students will tour Yale, and either Brown, Providence or UConn
  • Travel to NY
  • Freetime Rockefeller Center

Day 4 - New York

  • NY Subway ride to visit 2 of the following:  NYU, Columbia, Sarah Lawrence, Pace
  • Times Square
  • Broadway Show

Day 5 - New York/Washington D.C.

  • Guided Sightseeing tour in NYC
  • Travel to DC
  • Guided Sightseeing tour in Washington D.C.

Day 6 - Washington DC

  • Tours of 2 of the following: Georgetown University, Howard University, George Washington University
  • Residential Programming

Day 7

  • Students Depart for Home
