My first attempts at haikus were drawn from description of locations that held resonance with me.  Alluding to Basho’s The Narrow Road to the Interior, my poems reflected places I had travelled that left powerful images in my head.  In comparison to the vivid journeying in Basho’s haiku, Wright’s more stagnant haikus often described the same scene from many different angles.  Thus, for this week, I found myself writing multiple haiku describing a single image in multiple different ways.  Some topics I wrote multiple haikus on, while others I wrote paired poems that complement each other, similar to many of Wright’s haikus.
