Two children sat alone
They were friends and both at home
Studying for a test
Trying to do their best
The girl was frustrated, the boy was calm
He tried to explain what she did wrong
She didn’t understand, she wouldn’t listen
“This test will be the death of me” she cried
“Everyone’s gotta die sometime” he replied
The girl smiled

Years later they were on a date
She was nervous, he was late
They had made plans to meet at six
But he now had a car to fix
At seven he slunk over and apologized
He told her that their plans still applied.
She was frustrated, but he stayed calm.
He tried to explain why he had taken so long.
“You’re going to be the death of me” she cried
“Everyone’s gotta die sometime” he replied
The girl smiled

When they grew up they got married
Promised to be together until they were buried
Then they had kids and all was well
But kids become teens, as time does tell
they argued,
they cried,
they whined.
Until the woman drew the line
The woman was frustrated, but the man stayed calm.
He tried to explain what to do from this point on
“These kids will be the death of me” she cried
“Everyone’s gotta die sometime” her husband replied
The woman smiled

Their kids grew up and had kids of their own
But they weren’t worried, they weren’t alone
For they had each other, at least until
They found themselves in the hospital
The woman was ill, it was her time to go
But the man said “please don’t leave, I don’t know what I’ll do.”
The man was frustrated, but the woman stayed calm
She tried to explain that he had to carry on.
She smiled a smiled that reached all the way to her eyes
“Everyone’s gotta die sometime” she replied
The man smiled
