There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you. -Maya Angelou

My color doesn’t determine my life
I like smiling and tears hurt my pride
My color doesn’t determine my life
So what I don’t know my father
So what all my brothers are in trouble with the law
So what I eat fried chicken
My color doesn’t determine my life
Yeah I have to actually fix my hair
Yeah I have slaves for ancestors
Yeah I have a single mother
My color doesn’t determine my life
Trap music is good
Pop music is better
Yawl can’t categorize me
My color doesn’t determine my life
African Americans say I can’t act white
Caucasians say I can’t act black
My skin doesn’t determine my life
I’ve never lived in the ghetto
No I don’t have a white picket fence
No my house ain’t empty
No my mother doesn’t beat me
My skin doesn’t determine me
I am a human
I will not be dehumanized
I am not black I’m brown
I’m a role model with brown skin
