"Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present." --Marcus Aurelius

when we ran side by side for a while
and then woke
your face something ancient when your eyes were closed I did not want them to open;
i saw the other worlds you went to when they did.

when the gods of your best chance
abandoned you and left you to your own
devices you turned to me:
a solution.
when you were god, and you were the
best chance, when i needed no solution
i was yours.

when we ran side by side and then
turned away
and both fell to our knees.

God Makes No Mistakes. (Gaga?)
"I have hated the words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right." -Liesel Meminger via Markus Zusac, "The Book Thief"

I agree with JRaye, all of your poems demand thought in such beautiful ways, though they have often put me in rather painful situations since, in most cases, I hardly understand them. I must admit I was lost till I read McKay's dissection here, though reading the second stanza again (and again..) helped clear the window, and the sight your poem offers is marvelous.

This is one of those poems I feel obligated to break down, understand in every way possible. Truly beautiful, hypnotically beautiful (feel like that's the best way to describe how I feel about this!) and you definitely deserve this Editor's Choice :)

It's been ages since I've read your work. Yet it remains intact in my mind, always tantalizing my psyche. This poem is marvelous as all your other works. First, congrats on the Editors' Choice. By now, they're all yours. Just about every piece you've submitted has that little red check mark. You have the Midas touch when it comes to writing as well as artwork. Now, on to dissecting this poem! It reminds me a lot of Sylvia Plath's work in that the speaker portrays her lover as a god. They're both broken in a way, but they're each other's solution. Misfits in the world. But gods and remedies in each others' eyes. Everyone else is irrelevant even the Higher Beings because everyone else has abandoned them: they're left to their own wits. And amidst all the abandonment and wandering around forlorn, they find each other and are able to suffice each others' void, even if only temporary. They're young in age, but time and the reality of this world has aged them beyond repair. But together they're able to retain that youth and perhaps some innocence that Time takes away in its decrepit and avaricious hand. Wonderful writing. We must email some time. Otherwise, I fear I won't be able to write to you at all: my time here is approaching to an end I think. For now, I can't stop rambling about this. ^u^
