the salty aftertaste of sugared water
was
the grains of sand between velveteen seams
was
my shimmering seaside girl, and when
she was with me
we
allowed ourselves to back beneath the dying sun
summer legs stretched out like
white roadways
lips rounding open to divulge a cardboard stick
a blood clot tootsie pop
making me think of the insides of things
tender
tendril
how did I get out here?
