Sometimes poetry tries too hard;

Works too hard to make words sound

Light, easy, comfortable with the verse,

When really, its not always about easy.

The hard part is the best part

The troubled part is the best part

When it doesn’t quite flow right

And it sounds clunky,

Furniture dragging, heavy, across slanted floor

And it sounds thick,

Curdled whipping cream slopped in a ceramic bowl

And it sounds broken,

Fractured roof tile, sharp, on concrete.
