I was once a young girl,
Floating on the sea,
Running away from problems
And issues that bothered me.

Nobody was watching,
And nobody really cared.
I was gone for years
Before any news aired.

I'm older now.
Wiser with my age.
I returned to my family.
To face predicted rage.

To my great surprise,
I was welcomed home.
Like the prodigal son,
After his long roam.

I was once a young girl,
Floating on the sea,
Running away from problems,
And issues that bothered me.

The author's comments:

I've struggled in life starting at a young age. I suffered from anxiety and low self-esteem for years before anyone noticed. When I returned to a mentally well state, my family welcomed me back with open arms. I know that everyone has suffered at one time or another like me and we have to learn and grow throughout our teenage years. I hope that my poetry works contribute to the healing of my fellow peers.
