In the classroom there is a desk
Desk where my textbook was once lost
Lost like my favourite seashells
Seashells strewn across the beach
Beach where I made my first sand castle
Sand castle that was savagely kicked over

In the classroom there is a shelf
Shelf piled high with old books
Books that have been sadly forgotten
Forgotten like that mournful song
Song sung with eyes full of tears
Tears that streamed silently down my face

In the classroom there is a blackboard
Blackboard that’s as dark as night
Night that held so much promise
Promise made to stay with me forever
Forever that never came around

In the classroom there is a desk
Desk where I sat and wrote notes
Notes secretly passed to my friend
Friend who I’d known for many years
Years spent trying to show him my love
Love that was never returned
