My Brain Refuses to Focus!!! (Do I Have ADD?)

How does one know if they have ADD?
I've been pondering this about myself for a while and even my mom believes I might have it. I have the harderst time in the world focusing on a task to the point it drives me nuts! I try so many focusing techniques and listening to specific sound waves and all that stuff. Whenever I sit down to work on an assignment my brain starts to notice everything else around me and refuses to stay attentive to the task. It's like my brain and the task are magnets pushing against each other. It's really interfering with my progress at school. Am I just a lazy procrastinator or should I "blame it on my ADD baby?" (reference to Sail by Awolnation)

If anyone actually has ADD, can you clarify what it is, and how one knows if they have it?

If I don't have it....how can I force my brain to focus?!!

Hey there! I myself have ADD so maybe I could shed some light on the subject for you. ADD is bascially made up of three parts, implusive, inattentive, and hyperactivity or a mix of all three. Are the issues you're having just with the focusing or is there more?

Hey! My entire family, especially my brother, has attention issues such as ADD. I understand that it must be very difficult to focus. In order to focus, I try to stay active and moving around when he is doing something. If your mom is willing, I recommend that you try running on a treadmill or doing something active while she reads something off to you and has you answer the questions verbally. Whenever you're writing something out, try your hardest to use bright colored writing utensils and use illustrations whenever possible. It also helps to have something to play with or take apart in your hand while you're having a class discussion or doing schoolwork (I like to bring puzzle erasers or those wire puzzles to fool around with at school). If you're having a bad day, try to take little walks around your school or standing up while you're doing your work. However, I recommend that you don't just blame every mistake you make on your ADD, always continue to try your best and fight through your issues. I hope this helps!

No one on here will be able to diagnose you properly, and you probably won't be able to diagnos yourself. Go to an actual doctor and they can answer all these questions and help you. If you do have ADD, they can get you some resources to help.

hey, warriorwritegirl! I personally don't have ADD, however, I do have ADHD, which is similar in some aspects. At times, I do have a harder time focusing, and I'd be happy to answer any questions you have.

Thank you! Things haven't gotten much better but I recently found out that I have really bad severe scoliosis and apparently my brain and organs kinda have not been getting enough oxygen. So that could be a reason for some of my difficulties with focusing and thinking and whatnot. Hopefully after my surgery coming up, all that will be better.

I hope you get to feeling better! Also, the Awolnation reference is much appreciated!
