LET'S TALK FEMINISM

May 4 at 3:55 pm

BlueRoses, if you tried to post, TeenInk's evil filter swallowed it.

As for this subject... This is my opinion on most movements: you do you unless you take it too far. I wouldn't call myself a feminist; I would just call myself egalitarian. There are things I'd like to fix, like the still unfortunately common thinking of "You were wearing that, you were drinking, you deserved it", and the treatment of women in certain areas of the world, but I think that the people who call all men "oppressors" or shut down things like conventions for male su.icide go way too far. I also think the idea of teaching men not to r.ape is entirely stupid- one, because it excludes the less likely but still occurring cases of r.ape committed by female, and two, it isn't like teaching people not to hit each other or steal from each other makes the world violence- or theft-free.

Speaking of feminism, what happened to the Equal Pay Act?
By the way, I think people should hire the most qualified workers, not hiring the "inferior" type just to fill a job quota (which unfortuantely causes discrimination).

BTW. I think the reason why we have so many offenders (and are starting to get the female type) is because we don't have harsh punishment in our court system. The jails and prisons we have treat prisoners like house guests.

1. Look up Sweden's prisons.
2. It is very expensive to keep people in prison, and our prisons are overcrowded as it is.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but price and crowding are two very big issues.

The wage gap is a myth. If it were real, in this era all a woman would need to do is identify as a man, wage gap solved. The reason that women on average make less than men has nothing to do with gender. The average woman seeks different requirements than the average man whenit comes to job. Women, generally, look for flexible schedules and part time work, which affords them more time at home with children. They are less likely to apply for high risk high paying jobs like working on an offshore oil rig. On the whole, women are paid fairly for the work they do.

I love that your proposed solution to the wage gap is to literally commit identity fraud. Apparently you think pretending to be a man for the sake of employment is just a trivially easy thing to do, and not at all illegal.

To be clear, since I realize I wasn't before: yes, I'm well aware the intent of your "in this era" comment was to make a cheap quip against trans people. Which is especially hilarious because that's a demographic that experiences worse workplace discrimination than women.

Caesar123, I don't think you understand what feminism means. Equality between sexes. Literally just that.

no, they shouldn't be. Us women should get the same opportunities as men like getting into the army, but if it is equal rights we should also have the same requirements. personally, as someone who is wanting to join up, I want to have the same requirements because if I am not good enough to reach it then I should not be allowed to protect the country.
