This painting was created as an English project to bring awareness to the stereotypes of teenagers. I wrote an artist statement in the form of a poem to disprove these stereotypes. Here it is:

I am Not a Canvas for Your Thoughts

I am not careless,
But I am careful.
I am not rude,
Dissimilarly I am civil.
I am not dependent,
In fact I am independent.
I am not lazy,
On the contrary I am industrious.
I am not unintelligent,
Without a doubt I am knowledgeable.
I am not ignorant,
Conversely I am aware.
I am not violent,
Rather I am strong.
I am not spoiled,
Instead I am grateful.
I am not a canvas,
I am an unique individual.
