Do you write poetry in your free time? Are you looking for a challenging program that will give you valuable college experience? Does spending two weeks living and learning on a college campus sound exciting? Would you like to earn 3 college credits before you even enter college?
If you answered "Yes" to any of the above questions, UNE Early College is the camp for you!
What will you do in the Early College Creative Writing Program? Spend two weeks with a UNE poet and writing instructor, who will help you refine your style and build a writing portfolio. Meet Maine Poet Laureate Wesley McNair and former Poet Laureate Betsy Sholl, who conduct writing workshops with students. Get advice on writing and publishing your work from Joshua Bodwell, Director of the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance. The camp "wraps" with a public poetry reading featuring the work of students in the Poetry Workshop! You will meet with a UNE Admissions representative who will give you valuable advice on the college application process and financial aid options. You will live in a dorm, enjoy UNE"s many recreational facilities, and explore the scenic coast of Maine. You will take exciting trips, meet new people and make lasting friendships!
“The last two weeks have been one of the best experiences I’ve ever had . . . While here (at UNE), I’ve written more poems than I have in the last year.” - Early College 2012 Student
“I have new friends that are as serious and dedicated to writing as I am, as well as new skills to develop my own poetry and song writing. This was definitely an experience of a lifetime.” – Early College 2012 Student
