LIM College: Summer Fashion Lab
LIM College’s new and enhanced Summer Fashion Lab is a comprehensive pre-college program that offers high school and college students the opportunity to study fashion at the college level, experience New York City, and test drive a college exclusively devoted to the business of fashion.
Students have a variety of one-week credit and non-credit courses to choose from in June and July, as well as the opportunity to live in LIM’s Residence Hall. Non credit course begin June 25 through July 27 and credit courses run July 9 through July 27.
In past years 400 students from across the U.S. and several different countries attended the Summer Fashion Lab program and half resided in the Residence Hall.
A. What makes your camp or program unique? Our Fashion Lab Programs are taught by the same faculty and industry professionals who teach our undergraduate and graduate students, but the courses are catered to High School students and are made to be interactive and fun!
B. Describe a typical day in your camp or program. A typical day in Summer Fashion Lab involves students meeting for class in the morning, having a lecture portion of class followed by guest speakers from the fashion industry, field trips to fashion businesses and museums and/or interactive in-class projects and presentations! Students like to go out for lunch in the middle of the day and take in all that NYC has to offer.
C. What type of teenager participates in your camp or program? Our students are ambitious, bright, and interested in fashion whether it be a way to spend their summer or to potentially seek an education and career in fashion!
D. Where do your participants come from? Our participants come from all over the United States and other countries around the world. Last summer, nearly 400 students attended Summer Fashion Lab and approximately half of the students stayed in our state of the art Residence Hall.
E. What is the housing like and what can you tell us about the meals? LIM’s Residence Hall is located in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, and a quick commute to class via the subway. Our rooms are equipped with private bathrooms, mini fridges and microwaves, TV, cable, and WiFi. We have a state of the art kitchen and fitness center in the building, too! LIM does not have a meal plan for our Summer Lab students.
F. Please describe what teens have to say about your program. “I participated in the Summer Fashion Lab in 2013 and 2014. My overall experience was great and helped me make the decision to attend LIM College full time! I made a lot of friends, got a feel for what the classes would be like, got to live in the Residence Hall, participated in a lot of student activities, and had a great time being in the city!” - Current LIM Undergraduate Student Alex Kerns
G. Any other information you think teens should know about your program? Summer Fashion Lab 2018 is new and enhanced! We are now offering classes in June and July and our credit courses are now one-week long, meaning students can earn up to three elective college credits over the course of the program!
