About Davidson Think

Davidson THINK Summer Institute offers a challenging academic experience for gifted and highly motivated students, ages 13 to 16. Since 2004, THINK has partnered with the University of Nevada, Reno to offer students the chance to have an exceptional academic program, building confidence about attending college, and expand social connections. In particular, THINK provides the following opportunities: · Earn six college credits in three weeks · Experience college life while living on campus · Work closely with university faculty in small classes · Building friendships with like-minded peers from all over the country · Lower cost compared to other credit programs (financial assistance also available) While the focus of THINK is academic, having fun and social time are important too! Group activities are planned for the evenings, along with weekend field trips to local attractions. Past field trips have included beautiful Lake Tahoe, Squaw Valley Olympic Village, and historic Virginia City. A. What makes your camp or program unique? Unlike many academic summer programs, students earn actual college credit and complete the program with a transcript from the University of Nevada, Reno. B. Describe a typical day in your camp or program. Students choose one morning and one afternoon class. Evenings are spent doing homework, socializing, or enjoying activities outside. Weekend activities include off campus field trips and other social events like movie night and a talent show. C. What type of teenager participates in your camp or program? Students who enjoy THINK are typically highly motivated, gifted students who are seeking a challenging academic experience. D. Where do your participants come from? Students come from all over the country! We have had attendees from almost every state. E. What is the housing like and what can you tell us about the meals? Each participant will be sharing a room and bathroom with one or two students on a private, locked dorm room floor. Almost all meals during the program are eaten at the Downunder Café, which is located in the same building as the dorms and offers menus designed to meet the needs of all diners. F. Please describe what teens have to say about your program. Participants say that THINK helps them gain confidence about attending college, be challenged in new academic areas, and build friendships with teens like them. One past student said, “THINK made a huge difference in my life. I will always treasure my experience in Reno, and the growth I had there truly changed my confidence, my worldview, and my ability to succeed both academically and socially...Keep changing gifted kids' lives! You certainly changed mine.”
