Information about Boston College Experience

Boston College Experience

A. What makes your camp or program unique?

One of the things that makes the Boston College Experience unique is that we focus on giving students a complete college experience including service learning, reflection, socialization and academics. Students leave our program feeling confident that they know what to expect from their Freshman year. The other thing that sets BCE apart is that students take courses with other BC undergrads, they are not isolated in high school only courses.

B. Describe a typical day in your camp or program.

Students are typically in class each day for about three hours in either the morning or evening. We schedule a variety of activities for each afternoon and evening including community service, events in the area, and more! On Fridays, students can visit local colleges and universities and on Saturdays we visit local attractions including museums, Six Flags, and other activities in the Boston area.

C. What type of teenager participates in your camp or program?

Participants in the Boston College Experience have completed their junior year in high school and are highly motivated and academically successful students with the maturity and independence to live away from home in a dorm setting and complete two college level courses in six weeks.

D. Where do your participants come from?

Our participants come from all over the world! We have students from the next town over and students from Pennsylvania, Florida, California, China, and Norway!

E. What is the housing like and what can you tell us about the meals?

Students live in shared rooms in a traditional style residence hall that is centrally located on campus. Participants will have access to several dining halls on campus and will participate in the university meal plan for the summer. We also provide lots of snacks at our programming!

F. Please describe what teens have to say about your program.

Past participants have had a lot of great things to say about our program but some of our favorites are: "BCE provided me with the best summer of my life! The people I met, the service I did and the classes I took all added up to a fantastic experience that I will never forget!" "It's really helped me filter what kind of school I want to apply to, what kind of school I want to go to." "This program was truly amazing...anyone would be lucky to attend next year!"

G. Any other information you think teens should know about your program?

We also offer to specialized academic tracks in Math and Writing. These are intensive programs taught by highly respected BC faculty with individualized attention and creative content. If you have an interest and talent for math or writing this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to explore and challenge yourself while earning college credit.

Writers in the Making

A. What makes your camp or program unique?

Writers in the Making is different from other programs because participants have six weeks to develop and hone their writing in a way that you just can't do in only two or three weeks. Students will be in a small cohort, working directly with published Boston College faculty to read, write and discuss together the art and craft of writing. Students will leave with a published work for their portfolio.

B. Describe a typical day in your camp or program.

Students in the Writers in the Making program will participate in Writers in the Making and a writing Workshop as their two courses for credit. Students can participate in all of the outings and activities of the Boston College Experience and will have additional Writing specific excursions to readings at area bookstores and will have the opportunity to meet published authors.
