California Actors Workshop

California Actors Workshop focuses on the development of the skills young actors need to succeed in theater, from an understanding of what goes on behind the scenes to the performance of a complex character.  Students focus on acting technique, voice, movement, and improvisation.  We offer this workshop in the 3 formats below.

California Actors Workshop (9th to 12th-grade students)  - our primary program is a 2-week studio course which consists of a core curriculum of voice/body labs and scene study.  Mornings are spent in these two areas as student actors develop ways in which to become expressive storytellers and learn how to analyze, research, and perform assigned pieces of artistic work.  Afternoons are spent in electives so students can focus on specific areas of interest.  The electives offered vary depending on the specialty of the acting staff.  The program culminates with a showcase performance of monologue and/or ensemble scene work, which parents are welcome to attend.
*All applicants must submit a personal statement for admission to the program.

California Actors Workshop, abridged version (9th to 12th-grade students) - In this abridged one-week version of our popular workshop, students focus on two core components of the program: monologues and ensemble scene work.  Monologue techniques for playing objectives, obstacles, and tactics are practiced and then performed during a final showcase.  The collaborative process of ensemble scene work is worked on throughout the week through practice exercises to help student actors learn how to connect with other characters on stage.  The week-long program also includes electives, which are offered dependent on the specialty of the faculty.

Middle School California Actors Workshop (6th-8th grade students) - We have adapted our popular program so that it is now available to middle school students.  Through similar workshops and exercises, yet adapted for a younger age, students will be given the tools to build confidence on stage and develop their own creative expression.

"We work hard when we act, but we relax and have fun too. It's a great balance where we can make new friends and learn new skills. My expectations were to have a fun and educational time. It was WAY past that! The acting instructor was an amazing teacher who taught all of us so much. He was patient, kind, and so helpful to us all. When we went through troubles, he believed in us, which in turn made us believe in ourselves."

I would love to participate in your program. I am an aspiring actress and I need a big break for my career to start. Theater is my destiny and I would love some more information.
