ACTeen Film Acting Academy

Audition for NYC’s 1st and most recommended teen film and theater acting conservatory. Professional working staff and graduates (currently starring in nine TV series) attest to quality training.

ACTeen-Acting for Teens was created in 1978 by successful theater/commercial actress Rita Litton as the first on camera acting curriculum for teenagers. ACTeen Juniors, a sub division expressly for ages 10-12, was added in 2011. ACTeen develops dedicated pre-professionals into technically proficient, versatile, and marketable actors. Combining theatrical discipline with spontaneous, effective on-camera acting techniques, students learn to successfully perform in both film and theater media with skill and professionalism.

ACTeen believes that acting is action oriented, and emotions are the result of intentions successfully or unsuccessfully achieved. Therefore, various acting techniques are incorporated, including Stanislavsky, Meisner, Uta Hagen & Stella Adler exercises. The goal is to offer possibilities and tools, and more than one path to characterization. Students learn to function among diverse directors and actors with varying acting approaches.

In addition students benefit enormously from video playbacks (the "one picture is worth a thousand words" theory), which are an integral part of the on-camera acting classes and also utilized in elective courses.

Hundreds of ACTeen graduates have achieved successful careers in film, television, and the theater including: Max Schneider (Nickelodeons "How to Rock,", "Ragz"), Gillian Zinser ("90210"), Katelyn Tarver ("Big Time Rush," "Secret Life of an American Teen,") Jon Seda (Emmy winner "The Pacific," "Treme," "Homicide--Life on the Streets," "Selena"), Sofia Black D’Elia ("Skins", "Gossip Girl"), Jamie Lynn Sigler ("Meadow Soprano" in HBO"s "The Sopranos," "Guys with Kids," "Belle" on Broadway in "Beauty and the Beast"), Jordana Spiro ("Mob Doctor," "PJ Franklin", "My Boys"), Danny Masterson ("That "70s Show"), Daniella Alonso ("Revolution," "Friday Night Lights," "One Tree Hill"). Jordana Brewster ("Dallas", "Fast & Furious" films," "As the World Turns"), Raphael Sbarge ("Once Upon a Time"), China Shavers ("ER." "Sabrina, The Teenage Witch"), Samm Levine ("Freaks and Geeks,"), students on Broadway in "The Book of Mormon," "Bye, Bye Birdie," "Billy Elliot," "Jersey Boys", "Oklahoma,", "Spamalot," etc, Emmy nominee Cara Buono ("Mad Men") or Crystal Hunt ("Guiding Light", "Stacy Morasco" "One Life to Live"), and Emmy winner Dana Barron ("Beverly Hills 90210"). Many acquired their first representation through our industry showcases.

ACTeen is proud to be a two time recipient of Backstage magazine’s "NY Reader’s Choice Award" for "Favorite Acting Coach/Classes for Teens" and runner up for "Favorite Commercial Workshop" among adults and teen courses. ACTeen is consistently recommended by over thirty New York talent agents and managers for their clients and prospective clients. In addition, our alumni roster includes graduates who have become successful talent agents, managers, film directors, screenwriters, and producers.

ACTeen Incorporated holds it’s classes at the Weist-Barron Studios, home of Weist-Barron, the first on-camera acting school in America, (established in 1958). Various Articles about ACTeen or Rita Litton, have appeared in "Seventeen", "Cosmo Girl," "The New York Times, ""New York Magazine," "New York Post," "The Princeton Review, " "Chicago Tribune," "Backstage," "Dramatics" magazine, "Variety," on television, and in news broadcasts. ACTeen"s copyrighted curriculum is favorably mentioned in various books on acting, including praise in "How to Be a Working Actor" by Mari Lyn Henry (former Head of East Coast Casting for ABC-TV), and "Acting Like a Pro" by Mary McTigue.

My daughter, Julia,  attended ACTeen last summer and loved it.  The program was excellent and the instructors were all professionals.  Julia made wonderful friends and felt (her words) she got real training.  This school year, she received the Thespian "Critic's Choice," for our district, which meant out of 700 participants, she won the competition.  In addition she was cast as the leader of the mean girls in the short film "Hear Me." Julia felt she g... (more »)

If you’re a young, aspiring professional actor and are looking for THE best place to train, build your professional network, and have the best time doing it, stop searching.  You’ll find all of that and so much more at one of ACTeen’s summer programs.  Coincidently, if you’re a parent to one of these young, aspiring professional actors looking to send your son or daughter to an actor training program that is well worth every penny of your major financial investm... My daughter attended Acteen last summer and loved it.  She had moved past our local acting school, craved real training and found it at Acteen.  My daughter had nothing but wonderful things to say about the program and the instructors.  She came out of Acteen with vastly improved auditioning and acting skills.  This year she booked a short film and won Critics Choice in a district competition at her school.
