Silver tombstones shining in the sun
A graveyard of silent reminders
That summertime has come
Tombstones that do not mark the fallen
Or even ones we have forgotten
Just shimmering wheat in the sun...
I dreamed a broken rainbow
Crying fire, grime, and need
Hailed the flustered ocean
With a proud fountain of green
The sea with her haughty countenance
Took that green and wore it well
A mantle of sparkling emeralds
Above her dress of shimmering pearls...
I want my poems to be known someday
For that last heartfelt line
That draws and peaks
I want to be known someday
Not for effort or because I tried and failed
But because I went ahead and took a leap
I want to be known someday
Like the word-lovers whom I love
Who wrote of things pure and deep...
