A Step from Heaven

The novel A Step from Heaven is about a Korean family who moved to the United States. When they got there they had trouble adapting to all the different things and the different cultures. The incident to be discussed is when Apa takes Young Ju to get her green card renewed. Its significance was that it showed how hard it is for immigrants to learn and understand a different language. It gave me a perspective on how hard it is for people to adapt in a different country. When people blame the immigrants for stealing jobs, I don't think they know how hard it is for them; to be hated and feel out of place. My insight is that people need to go to a different country to know what its like to be disliked. They also need to walk in the immigrants shoes and know that they should treat them as they themselves want to be treated.
