The Outsiders was written by S.E Hinton in 1967. The book is about a society of two groups of people. There are the Greasers, poor people, and the Socs, rich and popular people. The Outsiders is not a utopia.
The Outsiders is a dystopia because the Greasers get thrown in the group sometimes because of their appearance and the Socs treat them bad. The Socs even start a fight but the Greasers win. One time a cop shot a Greaser when he stole cigarettes from a gas station. He shouldn’t have shot him though, because he was letting the cops get him, but since he was a Greaser they shot him. Some people may think The Outsiders is a utopia, but this is where they’re wrong. If it was a utopia, everyone would be treated equal and there would not be any groups.
The Outsiders is a dystopia. This book was probably written about experiences in highschool because S.E Hinton started this book at age 15, when she was failing her English class. She finished the book at age 18 and won many awards.
