I remember losing you to that drug.
I stood frozen at the thought of you gone.
All I wished to do was give you a hug.
Water flooded from my eyes, whereupon.

I remember losing you to that drug.
Seven months sober just wasn't enough.
Why is it so addicting? Just why? Ugh!
Never expected it to be this rough.

I remember losing you to that drug.
Solid hearts now thrashed like waves in a storm
because you passed. All I can do is shrug.
A place in my heart for you, I did form.

I remember losing you to that drug.
That despicable, despicable drug.

I wrote this poem shortly after my cousin passed away due to drug use.
