He's stuck in a cage made of lies and jewels,

Appearing to be boxed in on all sides.

Hes always been taught to follow the rules,

Avoid true love and leave feelings behind.

His life full of hue like the renaissance,

Yet he feels muted in his cage of dread.

When he makes mistakes his father's response

Is to show no mercy, beat him instead.

Now too afraid to commit and rebel

He stays hidden away, too scared to speak.

Until one lucky girl in love he fell,

And she makes him want to never be weak.

Alone for all these years, true love at last,

In strength together no matter their caste.

The author's comments:

Hi! My name is kaia Im 14, I love sports, and reading books. I never thought I would like writing poems though. They turned out to be a lot of fun to write and it is really satisfying when you are finished. Out of the few poems I've written this one is my favorite so I decided to share with the world. A book called The Selection is what inspired me to write this.
