As focus blurred from monotonous class

Potted magnolia makes its last stand

Damaged and bent, it sprawls in sand

Staring out from the confining glass

Fuschia flowers flourished in grass

Unblocked and free, worriless of strand

A simple wish to evade from the bland

A far fetched fantasy to elude from stress

The author's comments:

Nowadays, the world moves at an extremely fast pace. From this pace, all kinds of stress are built up. This poem, an octet, is composed to express the longing and desire of freedom from stress seen in any students or workers living in this era. The octet uses the wilting of a potted magnolia to symbolize the regretful times spent in a boring cycle of doing something we don't want to do.(magnolia symbolizes long life). The Fuschia, representing freedom and liveliness, symbolizes the joy that would be earned by escaping this cycle. Using natural elements in Romanticism, this octet expresses how “freedom” is a simple, yet hard earned dream.
