Burn the blinds. Let the moon dictate darkness
When it must. Night engulfs day – have you seen,
Heard, and felt the screams of unrest? The mess,
Which you ingest but reject, is just steam.
Tears evaporate and sounds can be shunned,
For it all looks the same behind glass.
Step outside. Let the coldness leave you stunned.
The worn souls, the foul-fated, let them pass!
Unbind truth, it’ll speak! Let it give will
To you, the thing behind windowsills. Brothers
And sisters spill your blood but you stay still,
Admiring the painting of gore. Why bother?
The barefooted aren’t you – very true!
For if you were and they you, all would have shoes.

The author's comments:

Currently, Europe is facing the largest migrant crisis of the century. Though many European countries have opened their borders to help the refugees, thousands are still suffering. Many want to ignore their plight and pretend they do not exist. They hide in their homes and shut the blinds so they don’t have to feel guilty. This poem is about those who refuse to help others who are in need. They feel detached from the issue because they have never suffered and refuse to relate to the less fortunate. However, we would all want to be helped if the situation were reversed.

Life is like a chocolate covered chilly....

Some succeed because they're destined to;
Most succeed because they're determined too

so... true. I don't know, too feel ashamed and cry or.... don't know.

This a very powerful poem. The ending brought tears to my eyes. Well done!
